We are still in the holiday season here at Breakthrough Church. A lot of families have been or are heading off. Others have joined and fellowshipped with us recently.
What does the bible say, if anything, about holidays? Well, it mentions a lot of them! Particularly in the Old Testament. Days like The Passover, First Fruits and Pentecost to name but a few. Many of these passed away with the ceremonial law but the idea has not. We love to get away and spend time as a family. We enjoy good food and fun times. However, a holiday is much more than that. It is also an opportunity to spend time with The Lord. It’s a time to evaluate, rest and draw closer to Christ.
When Jesus disciples felt burned out, He told them to “come apart and rest a while”. We are also told in Acts 3 that “times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.”
So have a great time! Yet in all your busyness make sure you have space to develop and cultivate your relationship with The Lord. That way you will come back both physically and spiritually empowered.
Why not schedule in some bible-based activities or visit some sites of biblical significance? Take a great book with you. Meditate on God's word. Find a quiet spot and go a prayer walk each day. Speak and listen to The Lord.
We wish you all a great holiday season and times of refreshing in His presence.
Blessings Pastor John
