Easter Blog 2025

1 Corinthians 1v18

“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”

Have you ever thought about the message of the cross?  What is it all about? In the verse we quoted above firstly we are told to preach about it. Next, we see there are two very different reactions to that message!

Perhaps you have seen someone with a little silver cross around their neck, a piece of jewellery or a trinket? Or you may have seen a cross outside a church.

Easter reminds us what the cross really was! It was an instrument of torture and an instrument of death! Jesus hung on the cross at Calvary in much pain and shame. Finally, He bowed His head and gave up the ghost.

Why you may ask? He bore the price of sin as He hung there. A substitute for all who believe on His name and receive Him by faith. Not only did He die, He rose again the third day -just exactly as He foretold. Easter marks the celebration of this world changing event. It’s often referred to as  “Resurrection Sunday”. That is something worth celebrating, that is the message which provokes two very different reactions. Either You reject it as foolishness (and that is at your eternal peril). Or its power saves you as you trust in the finished work of Christ.

It’s more than a story, it’s history. Yet it also points us to a wonderful future knowing Jesus as Lord and Saviour.

Wishing each one of you a very happy Easter.

Love and blessings from Pastor John and all at Breakthrough Church.
